DAM vs. Distributed Marketing Software
A digital asset management (DAM) system stores and organizes files. Distributed marketing software turns those files into campaigns partners can personalize, launch, order and measure, with the brand locked. If partners only need to download logos, a DAM is enough. If you need them to market, you need both, or a platform that does both.

What is a digital asset management system?
A DAM is a central library for a brand's files: logos, photos, videos, product images, templates and documents. It handles versions, metadata, search, rights and expiry dates, and who can see what. Its job is to make sure people find the right, current file.
What is distributed marketing software?
Distributed marketing software (also called through-channel marketing automation) is built for the step after the file: a partner taking brand-approved marketing, making it local and running it. It handles templates with locked and editable fields, partner data that fills in automatically, launching across channels, ordering print, approvals, marketing funds and reporting by partner.
What is the difference between a DAM and a partner marketing hub?
- A DAM answers "where is the latest file?" A partner marketing hub answers "how do I run this campaign in my market this week?"
- A DAM hands over a file the partner then has to edit somewhere else. A hub gives the partner a finished, personalized piece with the brand locked.
- A DAM knows who downloaded a file. A hub knows who launched what, where, and what it produced.
- A DAM rarely handles print ordering, co-op funds or approvals. A hub is built around them.
Why isn't a DAM enough for partner marketing?
Because a file isn't marketing. A dealer who downloads a logo and a product photo still has to build the ad, add their details, get it approved, and place it. Most won't, and the ones who do will make something you'd never approve. Partners are busy running their businesses; the closer you get them to a finished campaign, the more of them market.
How do you distribute brand-approved digital assets to partners?
Give partners one place to go, filtered to what applies to them, where retiring an asset removes it for everyone. Package assets into campaigns where you can, so a partner gets the email, social posts and flyer for a promotion together rather than a folder of parts. And put the partner's details on the assets automatically, so "download and edit" becomes "review and launch."
How can partners always get the most current materials?
Make the partner hub the only source and link it to where assets are managed. When a logo, a product photo or a legal line changes, the templates that use it change too, and old versions stop being available. Files saved to a partner's desktop or forwarded by email are what keep last year's logo in circulation.
Can a DAM and distributed marketing software work together?
Yes, and in larger organizations they usually do. The DAM stays the system of record for the brand's files, used by the corporate and agency teams who create them. The distributed marketing platform pulls approved assets from it into templates and campaigns for partners. The integration matters: assets should sync, not be uploaded twice.
Which one do you need?
- Mostly internal teams and agencies need files: a DAM.
- Partners need to download a few brand files occasionally: a DAM, or the asset library in a partner platform.
- Partners need to run local marketing on brand, order print or use marketing funds: distributed marketing software, connected to a DAM if you have one.
Where does OnBrandify fit?
OnBrandify is distributed marketing software with a built-in asset library, so partners always get current logos, photos and files, and can connect to the DAM you already run. Around the assets are the parts a DAM doesn't do: personalized campaigns, every channel including print, marketing funds and reporting. See the platform, or request a demo.
