Do Partners Still Need a Marketing Portal If AI Can Write Their Marketing?
Partners still need what a good marketing portal does, though not what most portals have looked like. AI can write a partner's ad in seconds, but it can't know what each partner may use, apply the brand's rules, print and ship the sign, pay the co-op claim or report results across the network. The portal's job is changing from a library of files to the place where AI does the work inside the brand's rules.

Do partners still need a marketing portal now that AI can write?
Yes, because writing was only ever one step. A partner marketing program has to get approved marketing in front of customers through hundreds of independent businesses, pay for it, and show what it produced. Content is an input to that, and AI makes the input cheap. Everything around it is still work someone has to do, and a partner portal built for marketing is where it gets done.
What should change is the portal itself. If yours is a maze of folders, tabs and PDFs, a free AI tool will beat it for partners every day. The answer isn't to drop the portal; it's to make the portal faster than the workaround.
What can an AI tool do for a partner on its own?
A lot, and it's worth being honest about it. A general-purpose AI assistant can:
- Write a social post, an email or an ad in seconds.
- Rewrite copy for a different audience, season or language.
- Suggest ideas for a promotion or an event.
- Draft a reply to a review or a customer message.
- Make a passable image or a simple flyer.
For a partner with no marketing help, that's real value. It's why partners are already using these tools, with or without the brand. See your partners are already using AI.
What can't a general AI tool do for a partner program?
- Know who the partner is: their tier, region, certifications and what they're allowed to use.
- Use the brand's current approved assets, product data, offers and claims, rather than what it remembers.
- Keep the logo, layout and legal text exactly as approved.
- Turn a design into a print-ready file and get it printed, packed and shipped to the right address.
- Show the partner's co-op or MDF balance, apply the program's rules and make the claim.
- Route a piece for approval and keep a record of what went out.
- Report participation and results across every partner, region and campaign.
- Connect to your CRM, your partner relationship management system and your lead routing.
None of these is a writing problem, and most are where partner programs actually stall.
How should partner marketing portals change because of AI?
From a library to a workspace. The old portal asked partners to find the right file, download it, and work out what to do with it. That model loses to AI on speed every time. The portal partners will use instead:
- Starts from what the partner wants to do ("promote the spring sale"), not from a folder tree.
- Hands back a finished piece with their details in, ready to launch or order.
- Uses AI inside the brand's templates and rules, so the result is on brand and qualifies for funds.
- Puts digital, print and funds in the same flow.
- Suggests the next thing to do, so partners don't have to remember.
- Works on a phone, between jobs and customers.
How AI works inside the brand's rules is in AI personalization without breaking brand rules. Why a file library was never enough is in DAM vs. distributed marketing software.
Why pay for a platform when AI tools are cheap?
Because the license is the smallest cost in a partner program. The expensive parts are the ones a cheap tool leaves untouched or makes worse:
- Marketing funds that go unused, or get spent on pieces that fail the program's rules.
- Partners who don't market at all.
- Brand team hours spent on custom requests, corrections and chasing claims.
- Wrong claims and off-brand pieces in front of customers, and the cleanup after.
- Decisions made blind, without knowing which partners and campaigns work.
Compare the whole cost of running the program each way, not the price of one tool against another. More in how to measure the ROI of partner marketing.
Could we build our own AI portal instead?
You can build a convincing demo quickly: an AI assistant that knows your brand guidelines and writes on-brand copy. Running a program on it is a different job. You'd also need templates and print production, permissions by partner, funds and claims, approvals and audit trail, integrations, partner support, and someone to keep all of it working as the program changes. Most brands find the assistant is the easy part. The build-or-buy questions are in how to build a dealer marketing portal.
What about partners who will never log in?
Every network has them, and AI helps here too. A program can run campaigns on a partner's behalf: the brand or an AI agent launches the seasonal campaign with the partner's details, follows up the leads and reports back, with the partner's say-so and the brand's rules. The portal still matters for these partners, as the brand's control room even if the partner rarely visits.
How should you evaluate a marketing portal now that AI exists?
- How fast can a partner go from "I need something for this weekend" to a finished, approved piece?
- Does AI work inside your locked templates, from your approved facts?
- Does it handle print, signage and merchandise as well as digital?
- Are co-op and MDF in the same flow, with claims made easy?
- Can the brand see participation and results by partner?
- Does it connect to your CRM, partner relationship management system and single sign-on?
- Can campaigns run for partners who won't log in?

Where does OnBrandify fit?
OnBrandify is the Marketing Hub for brands that sell through partner networks, built as a guided workspace rather than a file library. Partners start from what they want to do and get campaigns with their details filled in, adapted with AI inside the brand's templates; they order print, use their funds and see their results in the same place. For partners who won't log in, the brand can run campaigns for them. See the Partner Marketing Hub, or request a demo.
Frequently asked questions
Will AI make partner marketing portals obsolete?
It will make file-library portals obsolete. Partners will still need one place that knows who they are, keeps the brand's rules, handles print and funds, and reports results; AI becomes the way they use it.
Can partners use an AI assistant and the portal together?
Yes, for different jobs. A general assistant is fine for content about the partner's own business. Anything with the brand's name, products, claims or offers, or paid with co-op or MDF, should come from the portal.
Is a partner marketing portal the same as a PRM?
No. A partner relationship management system manages the relationship: onboarding, deal registration, tiers and training. A marketing portal, or through-channel marketing platform, gets marketing done through partners. Many brands run both, connected by single sign-on. More in TCMA vs. PRM.
